DATUK DR. EDWARD ONG

Datuk Dr Edward Ong Han Nam is a Singaporean property developer and the Chairman/President of Pelican Paradise Group. He is best known as the developer of the iconic Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah — a 384-acre seafront resort completed in the late 1990s, for which he was conferred the Sabah Chief Minister's Special Award in 2001. He also founded Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, which manages UNESCO heritage sites in Sabah and Timor-Leste.

Approaching retirement at age 60, he responded to a calling to invest in Timor-Leste and signed an agreement with the Timor-Leste government in 2008 to develop Pelican Paradise — set to be the country's first five-star resort, with a US$250 million investment commitment. In 2014, the World Evangelical Alliance and the Entrepreneurial Leaders Organization presented him with the "Entrepreneurial Leaders Award" in Vancouver. He frequently speaks publicly about his Christian faith as the driving force behind his investment decisions.
